Major update to S-map Online released

29 August 2024

Smap Online was successfully updated today.

The service now is at 41.2% of NZ covered and 11M ha in total. 73% of the LUC1-4 land is now covered.

New soil mapping in this release is:

  • 201,660 ha in Wellington – Wairarapa West Coast 
  • 9,656 ha in Marlborough – Upper Wairau River valley
  • 27,655 ha in Tasman – Tapawera Valley and Moutere Valley
  • 64,625 ha in Otago – Moa Flats
  • 45,999 ha in Southland – Chatton North and Curio Bay
  • 158,000 ha in Northland - Kaikohe, Dargaville and Poutō Peninsula

Updated soil mapping in this release is:

  • 123,698 ha in Bay of Plenty – Kaituna and Maketū Water Management areas
  • 240,000 ha Motueka Hill Country, Tasman

Minor corrections to soil attributes and soil names have been made throughout NZ.

Minor bug fixes in the S-map inference engine and leading to corrections to some estimated soil properties.
